I currently teach graphic and web design at Utah Valley University, located in Orem, UT. I guess a more inclusive term would be communication design, because that is what I teach students to do: communicate with images and typography.
I also do some consulting and freelance work although recently I’ve focused a little more on creating typographic posters, like the 34 Typographic Sins. More are on the way. Previous to teaching, I was an art director and creative director at two advertising agencies. The portfolio section of my web site has some examples of my work.
The purpose of this site is to dispense opinions (usually mine) and information about things related to typography and design.
If you’re looking to contact me, send me an email.
If this isn’t enough background for you, you can look at my resume.
Thanks for the downloadable pdf of your Typograhic Sins poster.
You’re welcome!
Amen and alleluia on your “Thou shall not” article in How magazine. Long overdue to tell the graphics community all the sins being committed for the last 15-20 years. I forsake working in creative out of school just to learn typesetting from the dreaded and fearful computer, many, many years ago. If I may suggest one more…always kern before and after the number one.
Thanks for the suggestion, Mark.
OK, all valid rules, but let’s note one more, providing enough contrast between background and your body copy to be easily readable. Or maybe you don’t want people to read this site?
Thanks Ken. I enjoy your sarcasm. Maybe I’ll spec a darker gray.
