ART 3460 Interactive Design II
For project 2, here are some files to look at. There are links to some different styles of animation and some to documentaries about artists.
Animation Styles
Hillmancurtis.com
Hillman Curtis is one of the pre-eminent motion designers in the world, as well as a fantastic web designer. The above link is to a page of some of his motion designs. Especially look at “Adobe Feature Animation: Cityscape,” “Adobe Feature Animation: Craig Frazier,” and the narrative poem “Sky”
Jib Jab Animation
Jib jab is an interesting style of animation kind of based on the movement of ventroliquists and their dummies, as well as puppets. There are some other interesting animations on this site, but be aware that some of the content may be offensive.
Grunge animation
This is a clip I edited down from the movie trailer of RocknRolla. The grungy style of the animation is interesting.
Stop motion animation
When you take a bunch of still pictures and put them in successive frames of the timeline, you can create some interesting effects. Here is a short one made by a previous student that looks pretty cool.
Cartoony
I want my flash tv has a lot of videos in a lot of different styles. If you click into the music videos section, there is one called “X-ray Vision” by Annika Bergstrom that is nicely done. Another one is “JCB Song” by Laith Bahrani.
Vectorized Video
One interesting effect you can create in flash is that of tracing bitmapped images. Here is a Charles Schwab ad that uses a similar technique. For more information on how to do this, see chapter 9 in your textbook.
Some Documentaries
Making of a t-shirt
Click “watch video” to see the process of how a t-shirt is made. This is not an example of a style of animation, but it is a good example of how to document the making of something.
Milton Glasier
More Hillman Curtis. This time a great documentary on Milton. It is one in a series of several documentaries about designers. Notice how he shows some of Milton’s roughs and sketches and then the finished work.
BMW
This is a behind the scenes look at renowned graphic designer Josh Davis. The video documents the design process he went through for creating some prints for BMW.
